On Saturday 15th October a presentation was made to the Fans Conference by Trust Board Member Tom Dearie detailing plans the Pompey Supporters Trust have for ‘Community Pompey’

This is a new initiative that will not only see the Trust fulfilling its constitutional obligations but will also bring together the majority of supporters groups to work together with a common aim and purpose.

Community Pompey will deliver a roadmap showing how the Pompey Supporters Trust and partner supporter groups can not only assist the traditional fan, but also reach out to those in the community who may not see football as being important to their daily lives. It is about having a positive impact on the wider community and using the power of football both on and off the pitch to really make a difference to people’s lives.

For Community Pompey to be successful we will need help. The 'Trust' recognised early on that it cannot do this alone. Part of the presentation therefore requested that the Fans Conference accept the Trusts offer to be co-opted ‘en-masse’ and become the collective community arm of the Trust. It was stressed that each group will still retain their own identity and mandate but we will all come together to work on Community Pompey projects.

Whilst the Trust may provide the catalyst and lead in areas of Community Pompey it will not be a success unless each partner groups valuable contribution is recognised. This will be further recognised and acknowledged through the use of the 12th Man logo which has so far been used as the Fans Conference’s logo. The success of Community Pompey will not be driven by individual kudos, but the collective pleasure in the positive impact on those members of the wider community.

The Trust are delighted to announce that this request was met with resounding approval from those in attendance and forthwith the Fans Conference are now the group looking after all Community Pompey projects and activities which will be led by Tom Dearie whose idea it was.

This is an exciting time for us all and we value everyone’s input and suggestions. If you have a specific skill you wish to offer or would just like to volunteer to lend a hand with projects and events, please get in touch either individually or if you’re a member of another fan group, through your representative at the Fans Conference. We’d love to hear from you.

Community Pompey will be exactly as the Trust motto says ‘By the Fans, for the Fans’
